Some of you may have noticed I’m not doing Gratitude Journaling Prompts on Friday’s much anymore, while I have not stopped doing them completely, I am now doing more Gratitude Friday’s. Just a day to focus on the positives.
Now, let’s get into today’s gratitude post!
I love graphic tees. I have a lot of them, a good portion of them are Star Wars, The Peanuts gang, my football team, and athletic tees with sayings on them, such as; Stronger than You Think, and You Got This. Super motivational sayings that are supposed to motivate you to push harder.
Now, I wear those shirts not because they are super comfortable (top priority in my list for clothes) they look cool and it makes me looks like an athletic motivated person.
One of the shirts is this one
I picked this shirt out for two reasons; first, the color. Hello! Who doesn’t love a bright blue!? And second, the word; Inspire. I liked the word, the word meant various things to me.
I gave wearing the shirt little thought when I wore it one day, people wear shirts all the time with sayings on them, and no one mentions them…expect this one guy.
Mom and I got lucky at Wal Mart and our cashier was super nice, he was like Santa, only with a lesser beard. He was talkative and fun and he asked me “inspired about what?” the question caught me off guard. Instead of saying something smart and how I felt about the word, I said the first thing that came to my mind “everything” I blurted.
And just like in any situation, you only come up with a good comeback much later. I knew what the word meant to me and how it made me feel, but I couldn’t form the words.
After my mom asked me, every hour after that, what the word meant to me, I finally put the words together and came up with what inspiration meant to me.
Inspiration is life.
From writers to bloggers to authors, we all need the inspiration to write and create stories. Without inspiration, we would be banging our head against the wall all the time.
But, there’s also a thing called living a purpose, inspired filled life. Too often we get into a slump, a rut, in our day to day life and we forget to live with a purpose.
I’m doing a 7-day devotional right now called ‘Finding and Living Out Your Purpose.’ And it is all about living for a purpose and finding God’s purpose for our life.
God has a purpose and a plan for each and every one of us, and it is as unique as us.
We should all share one common goal in life; Be inspired to live purposely and inspired.
Before I continue, we need to define ‘inspire’… it means
– Fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative
– Create (a feeling, especially a positive one) in a person
It is the second definition that I want to focus on. How often do we create a positive feeling in someone?
My devotional today was entitled ‘Our Purpose is to Honor all People.’ We all share something common with everyone; we are all created in the image of God.
Part of the devotional today said this
“In a world where the “self” is promoted and self-love is being raved about, it’s easy to forget about honoring others above ourselves as the Bible instructs. We don’t need to look far to find our life’s purpose. We can start by showing respect to the people who we cross paths with every single day. We may not know anything about the person but by way of them being created in God’s likeness, they are deserving of respect and dignity.”
So, I think we can agree on that, but now we have questions: How do I get inspired? Why should I do it? And, how do I get to spread it around?
So, let’s tackle the first question, the first how. Somewhere in our life, at some point, someone did something good for us. Someone gave us something or did something for us that us completely by surprise.
It could have been a random act of kindness by a stranger, or by a friend or family member. Whoever did it, or whatever they did, it made us feel happy and grateful. Remembering that feeling should inspire you to make someone else feel happy and grateful. And that is part of the why we should do it.
We are beyond thrilled when someone helps us out when we need it. Would we not want someone else to feel the same way? It goes back to the definition of inspire
– Create (a feeling, especially a positive one) in a person
When we feel inspired, we are filled with a unique feeling; a combination of joy, excitement, and gratitude. All good feelings we would want to share with someone who needs it.
And finally, how do we spread it around? Kindness can be like a snowball. One person does something good for another, they get inspired, that person then does something good, and it just goes on and on.
And when we do that, we are living a purpose-filled life. Our purpose? To spread kindness and show God’s people, His love.
So, with all that being said, how do we get up each day feeling inspired? Here is a list of ways to do just that…all we have to do is just one, and hopefully you will be inspired to do more because when we do some of these things, the results are very contagious. It produces feelings of gratitude and happiness.
So, here is a list to live an inspired and purpose-filled life.
- Be Kind – Kindness is perhaps the greatest gift you can give yourself and others. It can be shared freely and will never diminish in supply by use.
- Be Courageous – Live outside your comfort zone. That’s where the growth comes; that’s where the magic happens.
- Be Authentic – You can’t be inspiring to yourself or others if you are not being true to yourself. If God created us to have a quirk, or something different. Don’t hide or try and fix it.
- Be Grateful – Gratitude changes everything. Embracing gratitude will change your focus to the positive.
- Spread some Happiness – There’s a tiny thing called a sticky note, we all have them. Keep them with you and a pen. Write something on it, it can be very simple, and leave it where someone will find it. It can be as simple as ‘Smile, God loves You’
- Smile – It’s hard to have a bad attitude when you are smiling. The best part is that smiles are contagious…so start spreading.
- Laugh – Find simple joy and humor around you. Laughter truly can be the best medicine.
So, are you ready to be inspired and live a purpose-filled life?
